Saint Emilion Grand Cru
Vieux Château Mazerat owes its name to the famous
hamlet “Mazerat” in Saint Emilion, where the vineyard is situated. This small
production belongs to Jonathan Maltus who bought his vineyard in 2008. The
terroir has a clay-loam parcel, where very old vines are situated and date from
1947. The terroir also has a smaller parcel between Château Angélus and Le
Dôme, this latter also vinified by Jonathan Maltus. Because there is not really
a castle or building, the wine is vinified at Château Teyssier, another domain
of Mr. Maltus. This château possesses an ultra-modern vinification system where
everything is according to the principle of gravity, no pumps are used. The
wine ripens on 80% new oak barrels. This is a very small production, about 2000
crates a year. This wine is considered as a “garage” wine. This means a very
small, but a very qualitative production.
